Description: Learning Under Sail is an adult, live-aboard seamanship program that covers everything from boat handling, beginner/intermediate sailing, chart plotting, safety, traditional and electronic navigation, basic diesel repair and natural marine surroundings. Students do all the sail and boat handling under the supervision of a captain and mate with over 70 years of coastal and off-shore experience. Every day combines sailing and on-board classroom learning with ample time for questions and discussion. Evening s are spent on a mooring or anchored in one of Penobscot Bay's beautiful secluded harbors. Classes are limited to only 4 students on a beautifully restored 47 ft. classic Alden sailboat in order to emphasize a traditional and minimalistic approach to cruising.
June 16 2022 Update: With heavy hearts, Phin and I have concluded that we are overwhelmed by the continuing impediments that confront a successful effort and are resigned to join the numerous other efforts that have thrown their hands up. For this reason, the 2022 Maine Boatbuilders Show is officially cancelled.
